BRT North Shore

BRT on the North Shore
Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) refers to the overall integrated bus public transport network for North Shore City. Combining a range of bus services and infrastructure, the BRT system provides frequent, fast, reliable and comfortable public transport within the North Shore and to and from central Auckland.

The Busway and its stations are the central component of the BRT system, acting as a spine for North Shore City’s public transport network and part of the Auckland region’s overall MAXX transport system. Upgraded suburban bus stations and shelters, new bus priority lanes on local streets, new routes, real-time information signs, and improved timetable information all complement the new busway.

Travelling by public transport across the city and around the region is now easier and a much more attractive alternative to the private car.

 Key BRT components include:

• Upgraded bus stations and shelters throughout North Shore City including Takapuna, Highbury, Glenfield, Northcote, Browns Bay and Milford.
• Changes to bus routes make travel around and to and from the city, for employment, shopping and leisure much easier.
• Better bus priority measures, such as bus lanes, to make bus services more reliable. These include East Coast Road, Forrest Hill Road, Akoranga Drive, Shakespeare Road and Fred Thomas Drive.
• Improved timetable information.
• Real-time information displays showing when the next bus is due. During peak periods, buses from most residential areas run every 15 minutes.
• Improved pedestrian and cycle access to bus services and facilities.
