Other organisations involved in land transport

Updated: 30 November 2011

A number of other organisations play an active role in the transport sector. These range from central government organisations with regulatory, enforcement or operational responsibilities, through to organisations that have interests in land transport planning.

Approved public organisations

In addition to regional councils and territorial authorities, there are other approved organisations that can apply for funding from the National Land Transport Fund (NLTF). Other approved public organisations currently include:

New Zealand Police

New Zealand Police (external link), even though not an approved organisation, can also apply to the NLTF for funding for road policing activities predominantly to address road safety through enforcement.

Ministry of Transport

The Ministry of Transport (external link) is the government's principal transport policy adviser. The Ministry acts as the Minister of Transport's agent for managing the interface with the transport Crown entities, the Aviation Security Service, and the Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand.
