The NZTA’s Vehicles Unit is planning to stop printing all its Vehicle Inspection Requirements Manuals (VIRMs) and other related documents (eg newsletters and Performance Review System manuals) by mid-2012 and make them available in electronic format only.
The NZTA will work closely with interested groups to develop an easy-to-use web-based interface that will allow vehicle inspectors and certifiers to access all the information they need in one place. The development of the website will include the findings from the interactive eVIRM prototype model that was developed and consulted on in 2010.
The eVIRM project will contribute to one of the NZTA’s key strategic priorities of ‘improving customer service and reducing compliance costs’, and to an intermediate outcome of ‘Safer transport use - safer vehicles, safer networks, safer speeds’.
